Stourport Three Arts Guild is the oldest consecutively-running amateur dramatics society in the Wyre Forest area; our sixtieth anniversary is just a year away. The Guild's first production was The Cradle Song which was presented in March 1944.
The name Three Arts Guild is derived from the fact that the Guild initially comprised three sections: Art; Music and Drama. The drama section is the only surviving "art" of the Guild nowadays but renaming the Guild has never been an option - who would want to operate under the name of Stourport Amateur Dramatics Society (SADS) anyway!
We aim to produce two major productions each year and attempt to provide as diverse a programme as possible - our list of previous productions shows a wide divergence of plays from comedies such as Stags And Hens and Straight And Narrow to more serious plays such as Dark Lucy and thrillers like Suddenly At Home as well as the musical plays The Wind In The Willows, Little Shop Of Horrors and The Wizard Of Oz.
We also have a very healthy social side to the Guild; we organise a social event every month for members and friends. Our social events are not all drama-related; recent events have included a quiz evening, a skittles night and a Wacky Races night (Intrigued? Come along and find out what we mean!). We are also steadily building-up a much stronger "youth" element in the Guild, many of our younger performers have taken the lead roles in our recent summer productions. The youngest member of the guild was still in nappies a few years ago - I won't comment on the eldest!
We are an almost totally self-financing organisation and our main source of income is from our productions. We purchased our own rehearsal hut a few years ago but may soon be "homeless" because the land where the hut is currently located is due to be redeveloped. We can move the hut but desperately need somewhere to put it!
Many of our members are non-acting; preferring to work behind-the-scenes rather than treading-the-boards and we are always happy to welcome new members to the Guild either in an acting or non-acting capacity. If you are interested in taking part in any way, please get in touch.
If you have read all that and are interested to know more, then I am currently working on a more elaborate history, which I hope to one day be a definitive account of the Guild's life. This is a lofty goal and is probably still a long way off. Please feel free to have a look.
