Auditions for our November production, House Guest by Francis Durbridge, will be held at The Hut at 7.30pm on Wednesday 25th July. There are parts for four men and four women, of various ages. The dates of production are 22nd to 24th November at the Civic Theatre, and rehearsals will get under way after the summer holidays. Neil Crabbe will be directing the play. Please come along to the auditions, and if you cannot make it and wish to be considered for a part then please get in touch, tell Neil or any other committee member.
We have been getting lots of messages of congratulation for the cast and production members on the success of our last show. Everyone has been hugely impressed with the performances given by our young members, and by the quality of the sets and costumes. Well done everybody!!
It was particularly pleasing that one of our longest serving and most generous patrons, Mrs Elizabeth Mills, actually wanted to get on the stage and publicly congratulate the cast and crew at the end of the final performance. Unfortunately by that time the audience were dashing for the exits and the cast were scrubbing off their make up. But we are very happy to pass on her congratulations and thanks to everyone involved.
We are also very pleased that the show made a profit of over £220. Would cast members please return their scripts to Alan, Hilda or any other committee member. They all cost the Guild a lot of money and we cannot afford to let them go astray. If you wish to keep your script the cost is £5.50.
We are looking forward to seeing you all for a picnic and game of rounders on the Lickhill Memorial Park at 3pm on Sunday 22nd July. Please meet up at the Community Centre and bring £1 to pay for the hire of the hall. Also, bring your picnic and a mug for tea or squash, which the Guild will generously provide! If it rains we will have some indoor games which may not be quite as energetic as the rounders, but either way we hope to have a lot of fun and some friendly rivalry between the youngsters and the geriatrics. Finish time will be around 6pm.
With summer holidays on the way, it will be while before the next newsletter so please make a note NOW of the next social event, which will be a barbecue on Saturday 8th September at 6pm onwards. It will be in Peter and Heather's garden. We will need to know numbers for catering purposes, so to book your place and to get detailed directions, please get in touch. The cost of food will be £2.50 and soft drinks will be on sale very cheaply and wine, beer and cider will also be available. Andy Morgan will be chef and he and Lynn are planning to provide home made beefburgers and hot dogs with salads. There is plenty of space for the youngsters to run wild, and please bring your Mums, Dads and friends with you.
We promised to get all the people involved in "LWW" together again, along with any other members and friends, for a fun-packed afternoon, and that's what we have planned for Sunday 16 th September, 3 to 6pm at the Hut. There will be face painting for those of you who want to learn how to do it, or be a model and have your face painted. There will be a knock-out Twister competition which promises to be hilarious (Aunty Hilda says she won't be taking part in that, but we know better don't we?).
That afternoon we also want to spend some time to plan our Christmas Entertainment evening. We want to present an evening of sketches, music, carols and drama on Friday 14th December. If you are a juggler, magician, nose-flute player, or have any other hidden talent then we need you there on 16th September. We would like all our young members to he involved in sketches or in a Christmas drama production, which may be a short pantomime. All ideas, and all offers of help to write, produce or perform will be welcome. The show is being coordinated by Heather and Peter, if you want to get involved, please get in touch. Please bring some ideas along when we get twisting on 16th September!
There is no more news yet about the threat to the site of our hut. The Council found us the site originally, and we are hoping that the threat to move us off has been exaggerated. We have received planning permission for the extension, but there seems no point in putting it up until we know if our future is settled. Unfortunately, it seems we may be liable to pay business rates, but as a club the amount would be reduced, and we are hardly a multi-national conglomerate making millions in profits!
It's about time STAG struggled into the 21st Century, so it would be a great help in keeping in touch to have the e-mail addresses of all those of you who have one. It will also save a lot of money to send out the newsletter as an e-mail attachment. So please would you send your e-mail address to: peterhollis@rockcross.freeserve.co.uk
You will also find all the latest news on our website at www.3arts.50megs.com. Editor's Note: This is now www.3arts.org.uk, but you probably know that if you're reading this.
