It's all systems go for our next production. We have a superb cast and the backstage teams are bout to start work. We had so many enthusiastic young members auditioning for a limited number of parts that we had a hard job selecting from the wealth of talent available. Some people will have been disappointed not to land a major part, but there are parts for everyone who wanted one and in fact we still need more cast members for non-speaking roles.
Welcome to all the new members who have joined us for 'Wardrobe'. We hope you will find the Guild members a friendly crowd and you will join in all the various activities we organise.
We have committees who are dealing with scenery, costumes and publicity for the play. Just to remind those of you involved that the scenery and costume committees will meet at Lynn and Andy's house at 7.30pm on Monday 26 March. The publicity committee will meet at 8pm on Monday 2nd April at the Steps. Alan Williams is directing and Elaine Groom is producing the play and they will be glad of all offers of help with any aspect of the production.
Rehearsals are at the hut on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, and in order to give the cast more time to get used to the stage at the Civic, the rehearsal on Sunday 10th June will be held at the Civic Centre. Perfomance dates are June 28th to 30th.
Those of you on the Internet can now access our website at www.3arts.50megs.com. Editor's Note: This is now www.3arts.org.uk, but you probably know that if you're reading this. Neil and Alex have been setting it up and you will find details of past productions, guild news, photos, newsletters and other information. Once it is properly up and running this will be an excellent means of communicating with members and also the outside world.
We now have an application for planning permission submitted, and if everything goes smoothly we should have some badly needed extra space within a few weeks. Construction should be reasonably simple. We also need to carry out some decorating and maintenance on the hut once we get some better weather. We are desperate to get our flats and equipment out of the leaky old garage, and we will also benefit a lot by not paying rent on the garage.
If you are coming on March 30th, don't forget to give Lynn your food orders if you haven't already done so, here's how to get in touch.
Our spring "works outing" will be to Gloucester Docks on Saturday 5th May. There is plenty to see and do on a day out. There are all sorts of museums which are reasonably cheap to enter, boat trips available, and on arrival we can go our different ways and "do our own thing". We will have our own mini-bus leaving Stouport in the morning and returning early evening. The cost to cover transport will be a maximum of £8 per person. For more information and to book a place please ring John and Brenda by April 1st. Here's how to get in touch.
Many of you will remember the riotous success of our last wacky races night. By popular demand those bizarre characters Dick Dastardly, Penelope Pitstop and friends are back for another series of hilarious races on Saturday 16th June at John and Brenda's hospitality. Start time will be 7pm prompt! You will be competing to win maximum points - and points mean prizes - by "betting" (no real money involved!) on the outcome of the races. There will be a small charge to cover the cost of a simple supper.
As places are limited, please book in advance with John and Brenda, here's how to get in touch.
Alan has been scouring the Encylopaedia Britannica for wierd and wonderful questions ready to baffle us all at our next quiz night. This will be at the Brintons Arms on Thursday 24th May at 7pm. Get your friends and neighbours along in teams of four, or just come along and make up an ad hoc team with whoever you can grab! Cost of entry is £6 per team, and there will also be a raffle with magnificent prizes.
Please tell everyone you know about the quiz night, and if you can put up a poster at work please do so.
Twenty of us have booked places for Ludlow. Don has ordered the tickets for Wednesday 4th July, and he has asked for centre seats in rows D or E, which we reckon is the best position. As we get a group discount, the cost will be a mere £14.40. As we have had to pay for the tickets, would those people who are going please let Don or Hilda have the money a.s.a.p. - cheques payable to STAG.
Yes, it's that tirne of year when Aunty Hilda starts saving for her holidays ..... whoops, I mean she collects the subs. The cost of belonging to the guild is a bargain (honestly!) at £10 for adults and £6 for anyone at school. Please pay Hilda when you next see her or send a cheque (payable to STAG) to Hilda Williams, here's how to get in touch.
This year's AGM will be held on Wednesday 18th April at 8pm at the hut. Nominations will be welcome from all members for Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, treasurer and committee members. Nominations need not be given in advance and can be made at the meeting. Please don't feel shy about volunteering yourself, as anyone with good ideas and enthusiasm is always welcome.
Some AGMs can be quite boring, but never Guild ones! There will be a review of the last year and we hope there will be some lively discussion about future plans. We hope to have bacon butties (and veggie alternatives), tea and coffee available at cost price. We look forward to seeing you.
