House Guest

Our production of the thriller House Guest by Francis Durbridge is almost upon us. We are sending two tickets with this newsletter to act as a reminder, and also in the hope that you will be able to sell them - and more besides! The performances will run from 22nd to 24th November at 7.30pm. The actors have been working hard under Neil Crabbe's direction, and they deserve as large an audience as possible.
You are welcome to come to help build the set, which will be at the Civic Theatre this coming Sunday (the 18th) from 10am onwards.

Christmas Entertainment evening

This will be an evening of varied and light-hearted entertainment at the Day Centre, at 7.30pm on Friday 14th December. There will also be some seasonal punch (non-alcoholic!) and mince pies.
Much of the entertainment will be provided by our younger members, who will be presenting a rather unorthodox version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and also a dramatisation of the Russian Christmas folk tale Baboushka.
Some more senior members of the Guild are polishing up their party pieces. We hope to round off the evening with some rousing carol singing. Please come along, and bring friends and relatives too.

Calling all young members: Thanks to those of you who came along to the read-through at the end of September. If you couldn't make it that day but would still like to take part, there are still plenty of parts available in both plays. We will hold a first rehearsal this Sunday 18th from 3pm to 5pm at the Civic Theatre. That is the same day that we will be building the set for House Guest, so there will be plenty of activity going on! After that we will probably have rehearsals on Sunday afternoons and Friday evenings (but not 23rd Nov) until 14th December.

Christmas Dinner

Please also note the date for our annual Christmas Dinner on Saturday 8th December, 7.30pm at the "Day Centre". Turkey and all the trimmings produced by our magnificent team of chefs at very modest cost of around £8.50 to £9. There is bound to be some form of entertainment as well. We need at least 20 members and friends to attend to make the event viable, so we hope to see you there. Please get in touch with brenda Banner no later than 24th Nov.

Skittles Night

We had a very successful skittles night at the Kingsford on 26th October. It was good to see so many people there, young and not-so-young all having a good time. By popular demand we are planning another date for March next year. Many thanks to Lynn Morgan for doing the organising.

Summer production

Yes, we mean summer 2002! We have been thinking that Alice in Wonderland would be a popular show to produce. Alan has been looking at scripts, and surprisingly there is nothing available which is really good enough. So he and Richard Taylor are planning to get together to write one! They intend to put together a loose format to start with, then run one or two workshops to see how well their ideas work out. It all sounds quite a challenge, and a lot of fun as well.

The first of these workshops will be at the hut on Sunday 13th January from 3pm to 5pm. We expect all our young members to be there in force, but everyone will be very welcome. (For those who want another Twister competition, no doubt there will be time for that too!) Please make a note of the date now, as there may not be time to get out another newsletter before then.

Whist Drive

Whilst you have the January page of your diary open, make a date for a Whist Drive at John and brenda's house at 7pm on Saturday 26th January. If you have been before you will certainly want to come again, and if you don't know what its all about don't let that put you off! More details in the next newsletter, but as numbers are limited if you want to be sure of a place please get in touch with John & Brenda now.

Next committee meeting: Wednesday 5th December, 7.30pm at the hut.
