Those of you who came along to the hut on Sunday afternoon had a lot of fun playing Twister and painting faces. We also started to plan the evening of Christmas entertainment which we will be presenting on Friday 14th December. We shall be performing a dramatisation of Roald Dahl's very funny version of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", and a play based on the traditional Russian Christmas story "Baboushka". We will also have plenty of music, including some songs from "Grease". We even have a magician booked who bears an amazing resemblance to Don Williams!
If you would like to take part in one (or maybe both) plays, please come along to the hut this Sunday, 23rd September from 3pm to 4pm. We shall have some scripts ready for you to take away, although we will not start rehearsals until the end of November. None of the parts are very demanding, and we think that four or five rehearsals will be sufficient. If you cannot come on Sunday (we know it is very short notice!) then please get in touch with Peter and Heather Hollis to express your interest in a part or to get more information.
Rehearsals have begun for the thriller "House Guest", to be performed at the Civic Theatre from 22nd to 24th November.
The threat of eviction is still hanging over us. We are still trying to find out just where we stand with Wyre Forest Council. although we have permission to put up our extension, there is no point in doing so if it is only for a few months. Meanwhile we are seriously short of storage space. We may need to embark on a "Save our hut" campaign, so if any of you have the ear of any local councillors or officers please do some lobbying on behalf of the Guild.
The authorities have also decided that our hut is liable for business rates. The full amount payable is £310 for a full year, although we should qualify for a 50% reduction as a society. Even so, it is quite a blow to our fragile finances.
Come along to the Kingsford pub at the Kingsford caravan park in Wolverley at 7pm on Friday 26th October for our skittles competition. (This is a different date from that given in the last newsletter). Youngsters are welcome as well as adults. There will be a charge of £1 each to cover the hire cost of the alley. Basket meals will be provided at prices from £5. We have to order meals in advance, so please get in touch with Lynn Morgan to book your place before 22nd October. (There won't be another newsletter before then, so please note the date NOW!)
Please also note the date for our annual Christmas Dinner on Saturday 8th December at the Day Centre. Turkey and all the trimmings produced by our magnificent team of chefs at very modest cost! More details in the next newsletter.
There are still some Lion, Witch & Wardrobe scripts out there. If you are a guilty one, please return it as soon as possible. If you wish to keep your copy the cost is £5.50.
A dozen Guild stalwarts enjoyed an excellent barbecue in Peter & Heather's garden in Rock on September 8th. Andy and Lynn provided and cooked the superb food and Don brought along some garden games which provided a bit of fun and competition. although there were only a few of us there, we still managed a small profit of £6 for Guild funds.
Back in July (remember summer?) we had a great afternoon at the Memorial park playing rounders. That event also raised £4 after the cost of hiring the hall.

Next committee meeting: Wednesday 17th October, 7.30pm at the hut.
