January 2002

A happy and prosperous New Year to all our members!

We also wish Don and Hilda Williams every happiness in their new home up with the sheep on Clee Hill. They moved last week, and we hope everything went well and that they are settling in. When's the House Warming party?

Whist Drive

There is just time to book your place at the Whist Drive this Saturday, 26th January. It will be held at John and Brenda's house. Start time is 7pm, and there will be a small charge of £2.50 to cover the cost of a light supper. Please get in touch.

Alice in Wonderland

The script is currently being written, though not yet complete. There is plenty to do between now and the performances at the end of June. We need a cast of some 25 or more people, and there will be some singing and some non-singing parts. As a first step, Alan has planned a couple of Sunday afternoons at Lickhill Community Centre. The first afternoon on 17th February will be a workshop and read-through of the script. The second on 24th February will be for actual auditions. Please encourage as many of your friends as possible to come along. If anyone is not too sure about whether they want to be involved, then at least come along and find out more, or just get in touch with Alan.

Future events

We are planning another skittles evening at the Kingsford on Friday 22nd March, though this date has still to be confirmed. More details in the next newsletter.

The AGM of the Guild will be held on Wednesday 3rd April at 7.30pm at the hut. Please note the date and there will be further details in the next newsletter.

Last year...

Our production of House Guest in November made a loss of just over £100. Most of the expenditure was incurred by hiring of the Civic and the license fee for performing the play. We usually make up the loss on the autumn production with a successful summer show, so let's hope the same is true this year!

We also held a very successful Christmas dinner, and we are most grateful to Joe Field for his generous donation of the turkey. Thanks also to all those who took part in the Christmas Variety Show. The committee are thinking about making this year's Christmas event more of a party, with a buffet meal and more entertainment. Please let any committee member know how you feel about this idea, and also come along to the AGM to air your views!
