April 2003

Hello everyone. I only got caught by one April Fool joke, by being asked to save girls from a spider that wasn't there. So much for being gallant.
To business, after the AGM we have a newly installed chairman in Alex Forty and a recycled President in Don Williams (They don't make Presidents like they used to), Neil Crabbe was elected Vice Chairman, he's forgotten he will be Chairman next year, he'll learn. Auntie Hilda was overwhelmingly nominated as Treasurer and Alan was conned into staying on as Secretary and to complete the Committee; Peter, Lionel, John, Brenda, Lynn and Heather, all of whom should know better. Who says April Fools can only be played on the First?
Retiring Chairman Peter Hollis thanked the Committee and it's Officers for their support. He went on to review our year's production Alice in Wonderland and reminded us of losing a production because of the faulty lights at the Civic. Peter said it was gratifying to see the involvement of more young people, both on stage and in the running of the Guild.
Alan's report illustrated the diversity of our social activities which included Indoor bowls, a sponsored walk, a quiz, a trip to Ludlow Festival, rounders, a barbeque, play readings, horse racing, play, a new year party and a murder mystery evening. So, a busy and successful year.

Summer Production

Performance Dates 10th, 11th and 12th July 2003.
'Comfort and Joy' has been cast and we are pleased to welcome some new actors to pump some new blood into the Guild. Alan is the Director and rehearsals will soon be under way. Ticket prices will be Adults £5.50 Concessions £4.00.

Autumn Production

21st, 22nd and 23rd November 2003. Our 60th Anniversary production. We struggle desperately to come up with something to involve everyone, (for we, read Alan, so Alan is no further forward, BUT watch this space)

The Hut

Once again, we have the possibility of losing our site at Queen's Road. The Council have served us with notice to quit the site, but do say we can apply for temporary permission to stay. This we are doing but there is no guarantee permission will be given. If anyone knows of a site for us, please tell a committee member.

With sadness we have to inform you of the passing of Jack Stringer, husband of Margaret Stringer. Margaret was our President for many years and Jack always supported us and Margaret. He will be missed by us all.
