September 2003

Hi Everyone! I hope you are all suitably suntanned and relaxed after this gorgeous summer.

'Comfort and Joy' our Summer production was very entertaining and well received by our audiences. We could have done with a few more bums on seats, but we were competing with the sun and barbeques. Well done everyone.

Autumn Production

Our Autumn production is definitely 'Daisy Pulls It Off' and we have a superb cast. There is a good mix of older and younger members and they are all experienced, together with Alan as producer it should be excellent. Start selling tickets now. Rehearsals are Fridays 7-9pm and Sundays 3-6pm starting the 31st August at the Hut. Daisy is set in the 1930's, so we are in need of authentic gymslips. Please, please look in your cupboards to see if you can find your old gymslip and help us out, if the ladies would do the same we should have some success.

The Hut

The Hut nearly went up in flames in July. The grass around the hut had been cut and left, it was very dry. We think someone passing by threw a cigarette and started the grass burning, which quickly spread to the hut. Fortunately the locals saw and called the fire brigade who stopped any damage to the hut.

The Hut part two: We have applied for temporary planning permission to stay on Queens Road for another two years, but the planning office have refused our application. We are lodging an objection and asking them to reconsider. We do need to find a new site, so if anyone knows of any land we could apply for, do tell the committee.

Social Events

13th September at the hut a horse racing evening and barbeque, starting at 7.00pm.
It will cost £5.00 (food £3, races £2). This was a huge success for the people who went last time, so don't miss it.

Future events: Wacky Races - Fireworks

After this year's disappointment of the production at Ludlow we have decided not to organise visits and to cancel our subscription. Thanks Don and Hilda for organising us in previous years. We have had difficulty in getting enough people together to get a discount and the performances seem lacklustre these days. As an alternative and in addition, several of us are already going to go and see 'The Wizard of Oz' at the Birmingham Rep in January '04. We are not able to book yet, but it will be a Wednesday. You can join us and get a lift if needed by giving Auntie Brenda some money, please get in touch.

Next committee meeting: Wed 3rd September at the hut for 7.30pm.
