November 2005

Hello all you Stag members out there! Welcome to November’s Newsletter, in almost December… Quite a bit of news so lets get right down to it…

The Amazing Maurice and His educated Rodents is finished! That’s right its done, dusted, and knocked on the head! After almost 6 months of hard work by everyone, it would appear we have made a small profit on the play, though some bill still need to be addressed but the most important fact is that without exception the Audience we had said how good the play was, and how much they enjoyed it. So well done to the cast and backstage crew, as well as the front of house staff for doing a great Job, you should all be proud!

This leads me nicely on to… the after play party! That's right we are having a party full of self congratulation, back patting, and possibly some nibbles. The venue is the Hut, and the time and date is 7:30 onwards on 3rd December (if you were in the play you should have seen the posters) we will be providing squash and fizzy pop and I have it on good authority there may be chocolate cake, amongst the other nibbles. That is if I let anyone near it.

The Next Production continues to provide a source of irritation to the Guild; the committee have had a cunning plan however. We are holding another play reading evening at John and Brenda’s House on the 6th January 2006, probably a 7-30pm Kick off. The front runner at the moment is a play entitled “The Late Mrs Early”, if you feel you would like to have a go, please attend.

The Guild’s Drama Workshop (or the club formerly known as Don’s Drama Workshop) will be holding its first meeting on Sunday 8th January 2006 3-6pm, at the Hut
This meeting will involve all the junior membership (and the seniors too of course) and will be a regular feature event, this being the first meeting the plan is to have a play reading session for the Guild's forthcoming evening of 1 act plays. It is believed Lucy and Maggie (who played Dangerous Beans and Malicia respectively in the rat play) have volunteered to direct and produce one play and the mighty Prompt Chris Phillips has offered to leave his dark corner of the stage and direct the other.
However we are not limiting ourselves to just 2 plays, if there is enough interest, and someone else wants to have a go directing a 1 act play, please come along and have a go.
The one act play evening – for those that don’t know – is an informal evening which is usually only for the guild membership and their families to attend, and have fun watching some quality theatre (no really!)

We are planning a guild outing to go and see the AKP production of Peter Pan, if you are interested in going, please contact Neil Crabbe for more details, and book your place. We will be organising more outings and events in the new year, including a bowling night, and more theatre trips (someone i.e. yours truly, has already asked as many theatres he can think of in the West Midlands for their new year programme, however we will not restrict ourselves to professional productions, but try and arrange outings to other amateur groups shows, and who knows we may even get some inspiration for 2007!

We have (or soon will have) a space or two on the guild committee. At the moment the plan is to hold off raising anyone else into the committee until our AGM in April 2006, however we are keen to judge interest. So if you feel you can lend a hand and want to take a more active role, please let me know and I will pass on your details to the committee in the new year.

That’s about it for this month, and indeed this year, the committee will be meeting again in January 10th @ Lynn Morgan’s house – 7-30pm

Until then, I hope you all have a great festive season, and look forward to seeing you on the 3rd of December, 6th or 8th January in the new year.

TTFN

Alex
